Banana cream pie made with real custard is night and day different from packaged pudding.
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon flour
3 cups milk
3 egg yolks
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Mix dry ingredients. Add milk and stir. Cook on medium heat until mixture boils for one minute.
Add small amounts of the mixture to the egg yolks several times. Then add egg yolks to the mixture. Cook on medium heat until mixture boils for one minute.
Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Cool.
Line bottom of baked pie shell with banana slices. Cover with filling. Chill.
Top with whipping cream before serving.
